Aziz used this photograph of Axel playing to collect ideas for a story. He illustrated the story and recorded his voice using the iPad app Draw & Tell.
Aziz is showing an increasing sense of rhyme awareness. When we read a book with words that rhyme, he notices this quickly and shares his observation with the class. One of the favourite word sorts he completed in his word study journal is the rhyme sort below where he had to match rhyming picture cards to the words nose, head, hair, and knees.
Student-led conferences are a chance for students to take the lead and show their families some of their best work, favourite activities, and how much progress they've made over the year.
In other words . . . a celebration of learning!
Here is Aziz's reflection on his Student-led Conference:
Recently we have been doing a lot of playing with shapes. We have been studying their form and observing how they appear in different ways in the world around us. Aziz can confidently name the common shapes: circle, triangle, square and rectangle. He is also challenging himself to learn the names of new, more complicated shapes which he shows in this video. Aziz's favourite work with shapes was when he played with the shape stamps. He chose to include this piece of work in his portfolio because: "I like shapes because they're fun to play with."
